2021 – from Tasmania. The May 2023 Wine Club White. From Susan’s Fine Wine: Cool-climate wine, minimal intervention. Devil’s Corner is a treacherous bend in the Tamar River. The 100% Chardonnay of this wine is from this, the Tamar River, valley. Juice harvested with minimal contact with the skins. Fermented in stainless, three months in seasoned French oak where it underwent 100% malolactic fermentation.
Tasting Notes:
- Color: Golden
- Body: Medium
- Smell: S said peach, notes say nectarine. T said unripe pear, stones
- Acidity: middle high
- Taste: citrus toward lemon (not grapefruity like NZ wines, but the notes say it does), creamy but very fresh.
- Think: Terrific Chardonnay unlike most new world styles. Unlike NZ, unlike California and much more like a fresh French Burgundy. As a wine club member we paid about $17 for the wine, and would be happy if it was everyday price of $25 (but don’t want to go much higher – ever)
